Leadership
Roberta is recipient of a Master’s
degree in Regional Planning from Cornell University (Ithaca, New
York) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology
from Hampton
University
(Hampton,
Virginia).
She has taught graduate
level urban
planning courses at Texas Southern University, published
articles pertaining to urban issues, and presented at numerous
local, State, and national conferences.
Roberta is active
in a number of professional and civic organizations, including
the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and the
American Planning Association (APA). She previously served on
the Board of Directors of the Texas Chapter of APA and served
two terms as director of the Houston Section of APA.
She is a member
of the Texas Southern University Council of Planning Advisors,
which supports the Urban Planning and Environmental Policy
graduate program. In addition, she is the recipient
of two Congressional citations and was named one of Houston's Female Leaders of
Tomorrow by Houston Woman
Magazine.
On
two occasions, America
Speaks chose Roberta from a nationwide pool to
serve as a facilitator at post-Hurricane Katrina rebuilding
conferences. The first conference was presented by the
American Institute of Architects in collaboration with the
American Planning Association, at the request of the governor
of Louisiana and the Louisiana
Recovery Authority. The second conference was sponsored
by the Unified New Orleans Plan.
PRESIDENT OF RFBA RECEIVES TOP
HONOR
Roberta F. Burroughs & Associates (RFBA)
is pleased to announce that Roberta F. Burroughs,
FAICP, has been inducted into the College of Fellows, American Institute
of Certified
Planners. Fewer than three percent
of AICP members have been afforded this honor, which
recognizes Roberta’s professional achievements, long-standing
commitment to the enhancement of communities, and advocacy for
planning.
During her tenure with the Houston Department of
Planning and Development and subsequently as president of
RFBA,
Roberta has used her planning skills to influence
the course of planning in Houston. She has introduced
planning innovations, nurtured community-based organizations,
directed community planning projects, taught graduate planning
courses, mentored new planners, and championed planning in
countless forums.
Roberta has been active in other communities as well
a California project to which
she substantially contributed has received two national
awards.
